Big Win After 10 Years

After 10 years of initiating Scrabble games with John, I finally won by using all 7 tiles and spelling "unevenly." It gained me an extra 50 points, enabling me to win by 31 points...but who's counting anyway!

Artistree Garden Angel Class

I taught a Garden Angel Workshop at Artistree last Saturday. The "base angel" was one of store owner Nancy Nelson's pre-cut metal angel shapes. A sturdy and durable surface to work on. Nancy was out-of-town so we had the run of the place...

The five of us had a great time and everyone went home with a completed Garden Angel! The perfect way to spend a hot Saturday afternoon -in an air-conditioned studio! There were a lot of different supplies and steps but we still managed to spend some time chatting and share a few giggles.

I now present the artists and their fabulous creations!

Misha-Bug really is part devil dog

High Sierra Animal Rescue told us that Misha was a Jack Russell Terrier-X ...that's "X" for Cross/Mix/Part-Mutt. If she's a cross of anything it is JRT and Devil Dog...and now we have the photo to prove it...look at her eyes!

and now for some balance, here's a cute photo of her telling John she's been blinded by her toy and can't see...please...HELP...ME!!!!

Nada Dada

Before I share some pics of Friday night at Nada Dada, here's some of the National Disabled Cyclists race that was part of the Tour De Nez Friday afternoon. It was awesome and inspiring to see these athletes coming up the hill on Flint Street. Amazing determination and some trick cycles!

Artistree Art and Misha Update

Artistree May 09

I made this Garden Angel for Artistree's 1st Anniversary Party on Friday, May 22nd. They are having an Angel Art Auction to benefit Moms On The Run. The party goes from 4-8 p.m. and there will be great art, music by Chris Harold, wine and munchies. Artistree is located on Plumb Lane and McCarran, a few doors down from BofA and Emerald City. Hope to see you there!

I'm hoping to teach a Garden Angel class if you'd like to make an angel for yourself or as a gift...send me an e-mail at artcricket@gmail.com if you're interested - let me know what time is best for you. The class will be about 3 hours.

Misha with pig May 09

Misha is starting to settle in. She's sharing more and growling less. We thought she was sick earlier this week but it turned out she was moping around because we had put all her toys away. She's so dang cute, even when she's moping.

I'm taking a Japanese Bookbinding class with some friends at the Nevada Museum of Art - not exactly the class that you'd expect to paint on Tyvek the first night, but that is exactly what we did. Pictures coming soon!

Have a great holiday weekend and take time to be creative - I'll be doing exactly that, in the garden!

Misha-Bug and other updates

Introducing a new addition to our family ...Ms. Misha-Bug. She's 19.5 lbs. of terrier energy, specifically a Jack Russell with maybe a little something else. We're at a loss as to why she was abandoned, but glad that we were able to give her a new home!

Sacto B-Day Trip

This past Saturday, the tres amigas headed over the hill where the trees are lush and green and the roses are in full bloom. What a season teaser! The occasion? To celebrate our dear friend Patty's birthday. First stop - the Fountains Shopping Center, next to The Galleria in Roseville...Carol had given it an A++ recommendation and it didn't disappoint!

Sac SH Sign.JPG

I want one of these cool hot houses someday....and a place to put it...
Sacto SH greenhouse.JPG

Then a walk over to anthropologie ... great displays, as always

Check out the art hanging on clips....

A fun fence outside a restaurant. I've seen the design before and would love
to run it around the front of my house!

Not my style of park bench, but nice to see something different and artsy in a shopping center

The birthday girl with her HUGE Vera Bradley bag! Inside: the coolest laptop bag on the planet!

This is an insider comment but I wonder if this West Elm display is where Katie Kendrick got the idea for her Artfest class...or maybe they got it from her!
Sac west elm display.JPG

then on to the Galleria mall and a mandatory Crate and Barrel stop...I have been buying fun things at this store for over 34 years ... no joke!
Sac C&B store.JPG

And then to Nordie's ...my camera didn't do this dress justice but it is a great reason to go to the gym!
Sac Nordies Dress.JPG

Then we headed out to what turned out to be the tres amigas great adventure...trying to find a scrapbook store that I thought was a different store... and then I had trouble with the GPS
but actually, the GPS took us to our programmed destination... but it was a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere! SOOOO we drove on and and headed west - back towards civilization and miraculously found The Street and traveled 200 blocks to arrive just before closing...

Sac GPS.jpg

We ended up at Stampers Corner in Elk Grove (judging how long we drove it felt like we might be in or at least near LA!) I was trying to go to a great store I visited last November - for the life of me I can't remember the name. But we ended up here because I was on this store's e-mail list - the power of Internet marketing - believe it!

In any case, we managed to drop some dinero even though the not-the-friendliest staff was locking the door on us..and of course we photo documented the experience...one we'll be laughing about for a very long time...

Sac Scrapbook Store.JPG

and finally one last photo of our customary stop at Ikeda's where we found Ripley's Largest Artichokes In The World!!! The "jumbo" sign doesn't do these babies justice!

Sac Ikedas.JPG

Every time I head over the hill with friends I tell myself I should do it more often. So here's to more fun summer adventures with friends...and to getting lost and discovering new places!
Have A Creative Week,

What Would Rosie Do?

I usually don't post without a photo but here goes...tonight I was driving home down Plumb Lane after getting fueled at Starbucks (taxes, need I say more) and had to slam on the brakes for a little dog that ran into the street. The conversation in my head started...should I go back and get the dog, what am I going to do with it because Puzzle's immune system is compromised and what if it has some horrible disease, that dog is going to be a pancake, maybe I could keep it in the garage till morning and then take it to the humane society but it is way too cold out....don't be the one to drive by, be the one to do something...all this craziness going on in my head until I got almost to McCarran and then Turned Around...because I asked myself,

What Would Rosie Do? (WWRD!)

Yes, i decided, in the memory of Rosie, i would go back and if that little dog was still dodging rush hour traffic i would pluck it up, worrying all the way back that what i would see would be a pancake dog. And that's exactly what i did...I worried all the way - not wanting to even look when I got to the corner. I parked on a side street, grabbed my Starbucks and headed down the street to try and catch the spunky little canine...but not get her so scared that she would run into traffic! The little cutie (not the word I was thinking of at the time) eluded me so I knocked on some doors to scold someone for letting their dog run loose with no collar on a very busy street ....but no one answered. I was standing there trying to get her to come to me and suddenly a woman appeared behind me and asked me if I was trying to catch the dog...so that's how I found my assistant dog catcher and, long story short, the little dog, shivering badly, finally came to us. I picked her up, cute face out, and asked my helper if the dog was growling and what sex it was...turned out it was a female and not a growler but a big time face kisser!

What To Do Now?

What do you do when you find a stray dog and you can't bring it home? Again, a thousand options ran thru my head. I decided to take the little girl - later nicknamed Scooter, then Emily...to Healthy Tails. Marne called Animal Control, they came and got her and she'll be there for 5 days unless her owners claim her, and then she'll be put up for adoption. Little Miss Scooter Emily made quite an impression, overtime licking the animal control officers' face. The staff and I had a great time playing with Scooter Emily while we waited...she is one special pup. I hope I made the right decision...the pup had no collar and was not microchipped. I'll be checking CL and the RGJ to see if anyone lost a dog that fits her description. I hope Rosie is happy with the outcome...but yes, I wonder if little Miss Scooter Emily was a gift from Rosie or just a lesson to accept responsibility...

More Artfest photos coming soon...I have been seriously busy and tired, glad to have filed my taxes tonight and to get an unexpected refund that will fuel more art adventures this year...

Be Creative!
